007 * - Fighting The Same Fight
Scene 001 - Olympia Gym - Paradise, NV - May 22nd, 2016
*We open as Avery Miles III and his tag team partner, Levi Daughterty, are heading into a gym. There is no fancy sign, no windows with exceptional looking men and women working out, and barely a working door. But once inside, there is history, heritage, and tradition*
Avery: This IS the place, Levi. This is where we will call second home.
Levi: Aye. Not much to look at, but she’ll do.
Avery: Plus, the owner is an old school guy. His name is Sal Graziano. He’s from way back, but has retired from training. Local places still work out here as he doesn’t mind giving an eye to the younger talent. I guess the bug never goes away.
*Levi scratches at his beard*
Levi: Where do we begin, mate?
Avery: Maybe we just jump into. Let’s get stretched out and then hit the ring a bit. I mean, we do have a match against each other in a couple of week plus I have a match Tuesday here in Vegas.
Levi: Take it easy. Make sure not to overextend yourself.
Avery: I know, I am making sure to keep tabs on myself.
Levi: I am not going to go easy on you.
Avery: Neither am I.
*The two of them drop their bags on a nearby bench and start to stretch themselves out. Levi, the larger of the two, obviously takes a bit more space than his “little brother”. Avery, not one to lose a competition, stretches out as far as he can as LJ offers a good chuckle. He shakes his head as Avery as they finish getting loose. LJ gets up to his feet and offers a hand to Avery. The large Australian yanks Avery up pulling him into the air for a brief second as Avery lands*
Avery: Just like a cat!
Levi: Don’t get me started with damn felines.
Avery: What’s the matter Levi… got a…. Kitty problem?
*Avery miles big, almost elbowing Levi into the ribs*
Levi: Very funny. Speaking of little things… how it the little, soft thing?
Avery: Brooklyn?
Levi: Aye.
Avery: She is doing well. Taylor has her getting started in daycare soon. Especially while she works.
Levi: She still working-
Avery: Yes. Sore subject. I am not a fan of it, but she is doing it only until she gets on her feet and things get rolling.
Levi: And you…
*Avery holds up a hand*
Avery: It’s all a mess of confusion. I try not to define it right now. We just, play it day by day.
Levi: That’s-
Avery: I got it, LJ. It’s not that easy. But we… she…. I…… happy.
*Avery smiles*
Levi: Good. That is all I could ever want.
Avery: Alright, let’s do this!
*Both men enter the ring, Levi does so by walking up the makeshift stairs and Avery by rolling in under the bottom rope. They begin working out as they shoot each other off into the ropes as an older gentleman walks into the ring area*
Sal: So this is the couple of hot shots looking to use my gym?
Levi: Oh, sorry mate. Are we supposed to not-
*Avery elbows Levi into the guy and slides out of the ring between the middle and bottom ropes*
Avery: Sal!
Sal: Avery! My boy!
*The two embrace in a hug*
Levi: Do you know him, Avery?
Avery: He actually was a friend of my grandfathers.
Sal: How is the your dad doing?
Avery: Same old.
Sale: Pain in the ass?
Avery: You know it!
*Avery looks over to Levi inside of the right, who looks confused*
Avery: Sal was a promoter in Cali before moving here to Vegas. My dad wrestled for him for awhile. I sorta grew up calling him Uncle Sal.
*Avery shrugs*
Avery: It’s a family thing!
*Sal kisses his fingers*
Sal: Muah!
Avery: You crazy Italian! Thanks for giving up somewhere to work out. Rather not deal with all of those…
Sal: Yuppies?
*Levi mouths to him “yuppies” and is even more confused. He shakes his head*
Sal: Well I will let you two at it.
Avery: Thanks Uncle Sal!
Levi: Thanks…
Sal: Uncle Sal.
Levi: Uncle… Sal?
*Avery shakes his head and smiles*
Scene 002 - Lagasse's Stadium at The Palazzo Las Vegas - Las Vegas, NV - May 22nd, 2016
I find myself in yet another tag team match. Am I complaining that I am being booked? No. I am happy to earn my keep; but this is an obvious rib to the power that be to try to keep me in my place. A man that has a title shot booked at the pay-per-view and yet I am having to find myself in a match with three people that have zero connection to me. Do I think I am above any of these three people? I would never carry that sort of attitude, it is reserved for a man like Alex Jones to look down at people.
I am not that sort of person, and regardless of their own histories or what is going on in their lives, everyone deserves respect… that is until they make a decision to no longer deserve it. Luckily, this week I am facing opponents that actually are respectable and upstanding individuals. And I have another tag partner that I know that I can lean on. Kayla Richards; a bet of an underdog as well. It seems like we have much more in common then at first glance. It seems our… “opinions”... on Ana and her lapdog are in-line with each other. And our styles seem to mesh well. I guess I can’t really complain about the partners that the higher ups are giving me because last week Johnny and myself showed the fans what we brought as a team… and I think that Kayla and myself will do the same thing. Some may call it ego and others may call it thinking highly of ourselves, but please do not mistake it with our confidence. What wrong is being with confident? If Kayla and myself didn’t think that we would be able to win, why would we even show up to the match?
*The camera pulls back as Lagasse’s Stadium is on full display. Arguable the best betting spot in all of Vegas, if not the world. This is a sports lover’s dream; watching any one of the many monitors or grabbing some food. For some of the regulars, the best idea is going upstairs to Grimaldi's for a slice of pizza. Whether it be the Warriors and Thunder, the Yankees and A’s, or Lightning and Penguins. They even take bets on Soccer and NASCAR. Avery is sitting at a booth alone with a few documents sprawled out in front of him, a phone, and a tablet. He take a couple of pens and plenty of scribble marks on the paper*
Kayla and myself are of similar breeds; the underdog. When adversity is in our face, we still don’t back down and take the challenge on head first. He look before we leap, and though we may fail we always give it our all and leave nothing on the table. We do not seek out to be heroes or always do things with the best of intentions, but if we end up being role models than so be it. Just like in sports, the underdogs can and will find a way to win. Ask the 1980’s U.S. Men’s Hockey Team when they beat the Russian team. Ask Kurt Warner about the greatest show on turf in 1999. Ask Buster Douglas when he beat Mike Tyson. Underdogs are often looked down upon and never given a chance. Ana Valentine may try to keep people down like Kayla and myself, but we won’t let her get her way. We will keep on fighting no matter how stacked the odds are.
*We hear the crowd get louder and louder as the final seconds count down and then an announce over the television*
Announcer: And just like that, The Oklahoma City Thunder defeat the Golden State Warriors 133 to 105, and take a 2 to 1 lead in the series. The series now moves to OKC. The Warriors have not, all year, lost back to back games; the Thunder look to change that.
*Avery smiles as he focuses back on the camera*
And just like that, the team that was hand picked to win goes down with a second loss. Will the Thunder take the series? Well, we will have to see. But as far as Alex Jones and myself goes, this underdog is going to have his day. And I have a pretty good feeling about my partner, Kayla, as well. But before we get too far ahead of ourselves, we have two formidable opponents this week.
The Game and Kimberly Heart.
James “The Game" Chevalier; a bit of an indy standout from what I learn. I think we all have paid our dues and put the time in. We know how the indies can be; driving from one small city to the next while staying in the worst motels and eating the cheapest, garbage food possible. Last week, “The Game” had a big opportunity but unfortunately was dealt a raw deal with Cable Arcane. Wait, why does that name sound so familiar?
*Avery pauses, and rubs his chin*
That’s right, a man that while he did not utter the words “I Quit” was indeed beaten by yours truly. Being inside of the ring with him, I know that he is not the easiest of opponents. And for you to go toe-to-toe with him, bravo. Kudos. You deserve it, “Game”. But I am not Cable, and I plan on taking you and Ms. Heart head on. I am not one to earn cheap wins or to snub my nose at an opponent. I have been here in VWS since day one and I am taking it upon myself to show exactly why Alex Jones is not a good representation of the company. When I look around and see people like yourself, Gillmen, and myself on the male roster; I know that we as a company can do so much better than Alex Jones. But to get there, and to make an impact, it is going to take sometimes having to face each other; and that is where we are at right now. This is a little bit of a crossroads, “Game”. It is on me to lead the charge against Alex, and I cannot let a match like this to be a speed bump along the way nor can I look past it. That is not fair to you, to the fans, or to myself to simply not consider you a threat inside of the ring. A threat to what I am trying to do, and a streak of wins I want to head into the title match with. I am sorry that it has to be you in this match, and I hope that afterwards you will let me buy you a drink to show no hard feelings. If anything, I know that we can put on a clinic… but now is not the time for me to get tripped up and have an unfortunate loss.
*Avery peaks up to the television and checks on some scores. He jots down a couple of things onto the betting papers in front of him and crumbles up another paper.*
Hey, not everyone can be a winner. And that is a lesson that is going to be learned the hard way this week. Along with “The Game” we see an impressive yet impressionable Kimberly Heart. I am going to go ahead and call her Kimmy… she looks like a Kimmy. I hate to break Kimmy’s heart when she has to face me inside of the ring but it is what needs to be done. I’ve said the why already to your partner, but I can definitely see something in you. Past the Power Rangers obsession and the pink outfits, you have some great talent Kimmy. I have nothing personally against you and only wish the very best for you. I think with some time and focus, you would really do well here in Vegas… or anywhere for that fact. You and “Game” both remind me of a couple of underdogs as well; perhaps you both are top stars in the making. Just keep pushing forward and never quit on your dreams. When life takes a hard turn, grab the wheel and steer back.
*Avery smiles to the camera as the scene comes to an end*
Scene 003 - Taylor’s House - Indio, CA - Summer 2009 - FLASHBACK
*We open days later after both Avery and Taylor shared their first intimate experience. The Summer was going amazing for them as they were together everyday. Zoe has still been friends with the both of them, but had begun dating other guys. The three of them remained friend except Avery and Taylor had kept quiet about their budding relationship to not rock the boat with Zoe. The three of them still shared time together, but it was less often. This was one of those days that they were able to hang. The three of them were in Taylor’s kitchen. Avery immediately heads for the fridge*
Zoe: Does he ever stop?
*Taylor caught herself just staring at him*
Taylor: What? Wait? Stop what?
Zoe: Earth to Taylor! He is always raiding your fridge. It’s like he knows his way around here. You two haven’t been like… hooking up and not telling me about it?
*A deer in headlights look from Taylor before Zoe cracks up laughing*
Zoe: Sorry, I couldn’t help myself!
*Avery peeks his head out of the fridge, and gives Taylor a “keep it together” look. She mouths “sorry” to him*
Zoe: So, what have you two been up to?
Avery: The usual… movies… tv. Listening to music.
Zoe: Ugh, not that sappy crap I hate.
Avery: That exact CD actually. “Sappy Crap Zoe Hates” by some whiny guitar player.
*Taylor starts to laugh*
Zoe: Shut up , Tay. Whatever. Listen to that music.
*Avery pulls out a can of Coke and some sort of chocolate covered candy. He pops them in his mouth and washes it down with the Coke. He talks with his mouth full*
Avery: So good!
Zoe: You are gross!
*Taylor can’t help but laugh. She hasn’t been this happy in a long time, even if they need to keep it quiet for now*
Zoe: I will be back in a second, I gotta use the ladies room.
*Zoe heads upstairs as Avery carefully watches her. Once they hear the door close upstairs, Avery quickly swallows the food and Coke and begins to kiss Taylor over and over again*
Avery: I hate hiding it. I don’t want to lie Tay.
*He continues kissing her, getting every last one in possible before Zoe makes her way back downstairs*
Taylor: I don’t want her to be upset. She is happy doing her thing, we are happy doing our thing.
*Taylor kisses him again*
Taylor: I love you, Avery Miles III.
Avery: I love you too, Taylor Devereaux. Now, we gotta fight the urge to do this in front of her together. Keep it together. We are a team.
*Avery hears the sink turn on as he steals one last big kiss from Taylor. He backs to the other side of the table as Zoe heads back down stairs. She has a seat at the table as well.*
Zoe: So are we going to watch some TV or something? Let’s watch something on Netflix!
Avery: Sounds good to me!
Zoe: Taylor… you got a little something right-
*Zoe points to the corner of her mouth where a little bit of chocolate remains. In that moment, Zoe knew what was going on but it was not her place as it was her that ended things with Avery*
