Heidi Homes was just a mild mannered paralegal working in the city of Hartford, Connecticut. For the last two years she’s been happily dating the love of her life, Cable Arcane. Together they’ve had some great times, trips to Cape Cod, whale watching, they even went on a cruise last year, Cable was the literal man of her dreams. She never missed one of his matches, traveling anywhere he went, taking time off of work just to make sure she was there to support him.
Today was a big day, Cable had finally gotten signed to a major company, the new force in professional wrestling, Valentine Wrestling Syndicate. They had been working diligently to sign the top free agents in the world and when Cable got the call, well, she couldn’t of been happier for him.
She stood outside their upper west end apartment cradling a bottle of pink moscato wine and a bag full of Cable’s favorite local fried chicken, they only ate from there on special occasions. She smiled from ear to ear as she imagined their night of celebration, wine drinking, chicken and maybe a little drunk sex which was always more fun than normal, though she hated to admit it.
Ever so carefully so worked the key into the lock and turned it, turning the knob with it and swinging the door open.
”Cable, I’m home! I’ve got something special for you!”
She stepped through the door kicking it closed behind her, not noticing anything out of the ordinary right away. She put the bottle down on the breakfast bar and the bag full of chicken next to it as she did a quick sweep of the tiny studio apartment looking for Cable. When she found him her jaw dropped in both shock and confusion
”Cable?”
His luggage bag sat open on the twin bed with the red satin sheets, open and filled with seemingly every article of clothing that Cable owned. Cable was rifling through the make shift closet which was more of a modified full sized cabinet they found at a local flea market, pulling out the last of his things and tossing them into the bag.
”What’s going on?”
He didn’t acknowledge her as he grabbed the last of his things and tossed them into the bag. Heide cautiously walked across the tiny studio to him and reached out but he quickly rebuffed her with a gently slap to her hand.
”Cable?”
”What does it look like I’m doing?”
”Leaving?”[/font
”Yeah, exactly.”
Her heart sunk from her chest to her feet as she tried to process what was going on. They’d been together for two years, they talked about a life together, a family, a small house in the country with some land to maybe start an animal rescue in and now it was all falling apart more quickly than she could understand.
”W-wh… Why?”
He zipped his luggage bag closed and turned to face her with such contempt in his eyes that her heart nearly stopped dead right there.
”What did you think this was?”
”I-uh… I thought this was us, our life… I thought-“
”This-“
He pointed from her to himself.
”Was nothing more than a pitstop.”
”What?... How could you say that?”
A tiny conceited sneer spread across his lips as he looked at her. For two years he played the act of the loving, caring boyfriend but in his mind it was time to drop the dead weight and get on with his life.
”Easy. I just did.”
”But-“
”Look, you were a fun distraction but it’s time for me to get on with my life.”
”I thought I was your life… I thought we were going to see the world together?”
He watched her carefully for a moment, he could almost see the knife he’d stuck into her heart as the tears came into her eyes. She was so innocent, so sweet, so simple and easy to manipulate. A better person would feel bad but Cable only smiled a disturbingly eerie smile.
”Clearly you thought wrong.”
He scooped up his big in one hand and brushed her off with the other as he made his way toward the door. Heidi didn’t know what to do, she could of fallen over into hysteria right there but she didn’t want to let him go, she didn’t believe what was going on. Cable always told her on those late drunken nights that he thought he was empty inside but she didn’t believe it. She couldn’t. She reached out for him as he passed the little breakfast bar but he ripped his shoulder way from her as he grabbed the door knob.
”Please…”
He threw the door open and hesitated for half a second as a sliver of hope reared it’s head in her heart.
”You’re my everything.”
He looked over his shoulder with an evil little glint in his eye.
”Yeah? Must suck to be you right now.”
Before reality had a chance to set in the door was slammed closed and Heidi was on her knees, her head in her hands as the tears flowed freely right now. She couldn’t understand what just a happened, why the man she loved with all her heart dissolved in front of her into a ugly twisted version of himself. She tried to make sense of it, to think back on everything they’d ever done together, looking for some sign of this but the only thing she could think about was the first time they said they loved each other. It was after a night out on the town, Cable had taken her to play pool, they’d had a blast even though he beat her every game. She’d had a few too many beers and looked him deep in the eyes when she said-
“I love you.”
He’d returned her loving gaze and with a sly smile simply replied-
“I know.”
And that’s when she realized he’d never actually said it back to her, he never actually agreed with any of their life plans, he’d only ever replied with passive answers that seemed to imply he agreed. She’d been played, used and the worst part of it all was she fell for it. He was everything she ever wanted by design and their life together was a complete and total lie…

”Avery Miles the Third.”
“Who the fuck do you think you are?”
“Talking to me like I’m some generic super villain in whatever pop corn bullshit movie marvel is putting out this summer? I’m sorry son, but I’m not a goddamn super villain, I’m me, Cable Arcane, the man that is going to kick your goddamn head off your goddamn shoulders in just a few short days and I’ll do it with a big old smile on this handsome face of mine.”
“You talk about respect, honor, you bitch when people cheat to beat you and then you talk down to me? Cable Arcane? The Independent Messiah? A man who fucking went to war to defend your freedom while people like you were too focused on yourselves to care? Probably absorbed in your own self worth thinking war isn’t the answer when a bullet to the head is the only thing that most of these third world assholes understand.”
“You talk down to me!?”
“Yeah, you’re really all about respect and honor and doing things the right way. You’re a self absorbed hypocrite who can’t deal with the fact that he isn’t good enough to wrestle in Valentine Wrestling. Where the hell did you think you were buddy? Did you even research the people that run this company? Ana Valentine-Jones is feared and respected the wrestling world over for her destructive nature and the man she looks to for love and support is the dirtiest player to ever step into the ring.”
“You must be pretty goddamn stupid to step into their ring and expect the men on the other side of it to respect you.”
“Maybe you haven’t been doing this as long as Alex Jones or Ana Valentine or myself but I can tell you from first hand experience, men like you? They don’t last long in professional wrestling. Goodie little two shoes who preach honor and respect don’t make it past the entrance door in a real professional wrestling company. Maybe over in one of those back water indy promotions where you’re the “world” champion your act amounts to something but in VWS?”
“You’re just a victim.”
“To be more exact you’re my first victim. A warning shot to the rest of the roster that Cable Arcane has arrived and the whole land scape of this promotion is about to change. See, I keep telling people I’m not here to make friends, I could give a shit less if the people in the back or the fans in the crowd love or respect me. The only damn thing that matters to me is I’m the last one standing at the end of the match and I promise you Avery…”
“You’ll be flat on your back by nights end.”
“You’re pissed off? You want revenge? You’ve got your sights set on the world champion? Well good for you buddy but Tuesday night you aren’t stepping into the ring with Alex Jones, you’re stepping into the ring with Cable Arcane. You’re stepping into the ring with a man who isn’t concerned with putting on a good show, a man who isn’t concerned with playing a character, you’re stepping into the ring with a man who plain and simple wants to beat your ass into submission.”
“You doubt me, you doubt my skills, you buy into your own hype but history is proof enough that Avery Miles the Third is nothing more than hype. You couldn’t cut it when gold was on the line, floundered and failed the second a pretty girl caught your eye. Avery, let me lay this out for you plain and simple, you’re a goddamn joke.”
“A stereotype.”
“You’re the A typical Superman persona good guy of professional wrestling. EXCEPT you’ve lost two weeks in a row and now you want to inject a little personality into your cardboard cut out persona so you’re dropping eff bombs and threatening me with pain unimaginable.”
“Stereotype.”
“Why not pop some more of those anti depressents, kiss another soon to be dead kid on the head and shut the hell up before I break your goddamn jaw and the VWS head doctor has to sow it closed for you?”
“This is how it’s going to go Avery, so pay close attention. We’re going to come to the ring, the referee is going to brief us on the rules, the bell is going to ring and that’s where your control over your own life is going to end. I’m going to hit you, hard, again and again and again until I draw blood. Once you start to bleed I’m going to hit you even harder. You’re going to wonder exactly what you said to piss me off so bad as you pray to the lord Jesus above for me to stop and then everything is going to go dark. You’re going to wake up hours, maybe days later in a hospital bed, you’re going to ask that pretty piece of ass you call a future wife what the hell happened and she’s going to show you a video.”
“That’s where the nightmare will start all over again.”
“You’re going to watch as I physically dissect you from top to bottom until there is literally nothing left of your supposed legendary resolve. You’ll watch from a hospital bed as AVM is reduced to nothing more than a whimpering child in the ring, wishing that death was just around the corner like the smiling little shits you visit in your spare time but unfortunately for you nothing I do inside that ring is terminal.”
“You’ll just wish it was.”
“You and me, we’re nothing alike. That’s something you were dead right about. Because I will literally never stop until I’ve done everything I came here to do while you? You will always revert back to form, a whiny little punk bitch who pretends to be a super hero. Well guess what son, Superman died at the end of that movie so take a wild guess how this story is going to end?”
“No Sleep.
“No Rest.”
“No Mercy.”
“Now say “Goodnight” Avery, I’ll be laying your ass to rest.”
“Who the fuck do you think you are?”
