002 * The Underdog (VWS)
Scene 001 - Kelvin Hotel - Invercargill, NZ - Saturday April 10th NZ Time
*Avery Miles III is coming off of some ups and downs over the weekend. A win in his Texas debut, a loss in New Zealand, the announcement of expecting a baby, and the retirement of his fiancee. What a weekend. All of this, and he looks forward to a second chance to make an impact in Las Vegas. Avery is back at his hotel with his future wife, Alycia Morgan. The two of them announced live on Vendetta that Alycia had to stop wrestling, at least for the time being, as she is pregnant. The two of them have yet to announce a wedding date, but sooner than later seems to be the plan. For Avery, things to need to keep moving. Boarding a plane for Vegas on Sunday and getting settled for Tuesday Night Tenacity, a second chance at making an impact for Valentine Wrestling Syndicate. Both Avery and Alycia arrive back at the hotel late after Vendetta ends. They head inside as Avery carries both of their bags, not allowing her to have to carry anything*
Alycia: "You do know that I am still capable of carrying the bags, right?"
Avery: "Yes, I know. But why put the extra stain on you and the baby."
Alcyia: "Are you going to be like this for nine months?"
*Avery smiles to her as he puts the bags down. He tosses his keys onto the table, along with his phone and wallet*
Avery: "Yes, I am. Get used to being spoiled even more than you are already"
*Avery goes into the fridge and grabs out two bottles of water. Performing earlier in the night took a lot out of him. He is ready for a hot, long shower along with some relaxation. He would be able to grab some shut eye before their flight on Sunday evening. The flight to and from New Zealand wasn't too bad as they were getting more accustomed to it, but it would soon be coming to an end as their New Zealand tour with NGW would be ending in less than two weeks. For now, Avery was ready to get his clothes off and head into the shower; maybe even for a bath*
Alycia: "How about you go ahead and get undressed. Get settled. I will draw you a bath and you can soak for a bit to relax."
Avery: "Did you just read my mind?"
*Avery closes one eye and tilts his head, letting our half of a smirk. Alycia heads towards the bathroom as the water turns on and it can be heard filling up. Avery finishes off the bottle of water. He strips himself and tosses the clothes in a cloth hamper that they bring along with them to try and make their hotel stays as homey as possible. He heads into the bathroom and she has the tub filled with water and bubbles. He slides in as he closes his eyes and just relaxes thanks to the hot water*
Alycia: "Good?"
Avery: "Very. Thank you."
*His beautiful fiancee grabs her phone and puts on some music to play softly. She heads out into the main room and makes sure that the door is locked. Avery grabs a washcloth and places it on his face. Wrestling is a sport of bumps, bruises, and pain. It is something that he takes both pride and joy in, but it is something that needs time to relax and recover from. These moments when he was able to just soak and take it all in; allowing himself to reflect, they were great moments. Alycia yells from the other room*
Alycia: "You doing okay in there babe? Anything you need?"
Avery: "Just you!"
*He laughs as he jokes to himself. A couple of more minutes go by as he just gets lost in relaxation. He hears the soft footsteps of Alycia approaching the bathroom but thinks nothing of it. After a minute, his mind again drifts off until he seems a hand touch the tub. Without him being able to react, she climbs into the tub with him as she slides down into the bubbles from the neck down*
Alycia: "I was hoping that you would say."
*She smiles at his with a sexy look on her face. He removes the wash cloth off of his face as she climbs forward on him and wraps her arms around his neck*
Avery: "Are you trying to seduce me Miss Morgan?"
Alycia: "Actually... it is soon to be Mrs. Miles."
They close their eyes as they passionately kiss. The scene fades to black before anything goes further.
Scene 002 - Kelvin Hotel's Breakfast Bar - Invercargill, NZ - Sunday April 11th NZ Time
*Avery and Alycia are sitting at a table. They both are drinking some orange juice while Avery is eats a stack of pancakes that Alycia steals every third bite from*
Alycia: "You know, the baby wants the pancakes. Not me. I am just feeding his or her hunger."
*Avery shakes his head and laughs. He pushes his plate forward towards her, as Alycia does not say no and proceeds to enjoy the pancakes with some warm syrup*
Alycia: "Are you ready for Vegas? We gotta head to the airport soon! You have a pretty big match, don't you?"
Avery: "Yeah. It's a tag team match, I guess I don't mind. I just want to make my name known. I want to become a big name both in VWS and in the industry as a whole. That is why I am pushing so hard. Coming out second to last out of five is definitely some success, but winning was the ultimate goal. I mean, I did go toe-to-toe with that big man, Ellis. But this week I get to team up against him. I respect him. I respect his size. I hope that he is on the same page as I am; regardless of what he or I want, we are booked together in this tag match. I think it is in both of our best interests to work together as our opponents have their own agendas.
*Alycia finishes chewing as she takes a drink to wash down the yummy pancake goodness*
Alycia: "Well just remember to give it your all. I will be in the back watching..."
*She moves her hand to her stomach*
Alycia: "...we are proud of you no matter what."
*Avery smiles as he finishes off his orange juice. They had decided that a June wedding would be a good date. She would not too big to she could still enjoy things, and it would be warm in Southern California for a great wedding. They finished up their breakfast as they were heading out to the airport for their long flight to Vegas*
Scene 003 - Invercargill Airport - Invercargill, NZ - Sunday April 11th NZ Time
*Avery and Alycia are waiting the board their plane as they have about an hour to kill. Avery decided it was best to take advantage of the time as he found a quiet spot in the airport. They two of them decided to capitalize on a row of seats as Avery would do a call-in interview with "Yung Jon Que" on 98.5 KLUC in Vegas. Avery calls in and gets the producer on the interview line, and he goes over the basics to Avery. Being someone that has been around a bit, Avery knows the rundown and makes sure to be aware of hitting the advertising spots on the radio show for the show on Tuesday at the T-Mobile arena*
Jon Que: "We are being phoned via phone by Avery Miles III. He is a wrestler that is taking part in 'Tuesday Night Tenacity' live this Tuesday the 12th. Avery will be taking part in a Tag Team Match for Valentine Wrestling Syndicate. He will be teaming with Gabriel Ellis to take on Javen and Alex Jones. Hopefully I got all of those details right!"
Avery: "You did, thanks for having me Jon."
Jon Que: "No problem at all. So this is the second show of VWS I am hearing, correct?"
Avery: "Yes, we opened just over a week ago with a show called "March Madness" at the T-Mobile Arena.
Jon Que: "Great venue. Glad to see if being utilized well."
Avery: "I agree. I get to travel and visit many venues. The arena there in Vegas is top notch."
Jon Que: "So I am not a big fan of wrestling, but I did grow up watching people like Hulk Hogan, Sgt. Slaughter, and a personal favorite, Jimmy Snuka. We are taking wrestling along those lines, right?"
Avery: "Well technically, yes. But wrestling has come a long way since then. More technicians in the sport. Less emphasis on size, and more emphasis on in-ring talent and skill. I mean, behemoths like my partner Gabriel Ellis still exist in the game but long gone are the days of a slow, powerful big giant. Ellis is talented inside of the ring, and his size just happens to back up his skills that much more. I actually was inside of the ring with him there just over a week ago, and learned the hard way how hard it is to take him down. I am glad that this week he is on my side instead of being against him, haha."
Jon Que: "That makes sense. And thank you, I think that does help to give us some more insight. So tell me, how long have you been doing this for?"
Avery: "Well I am a third generation star. My father was a professional wrestler in Southern California, and his father was an amateur style wrestler. So talent is something handed down, along with my name."
Jon Que: "Haha. How does your mom know which Avery she is calling when she yells your name?"
Avery: "I am Avery, my dad is James. He is technically Avery James, but people have always called him James because of being the second Avery in line. I really enjoy my family's namesake and it is something I would like to continue."
*Avery looks over to Alycia who is on her tablet. She smiles at him and nods*
Jon Que: "Tell us about you, though."
Avery: "I have been wrestling since I was about eighteen or so. I originally had been in college, but things were not going my way. I had no intentions of doing this right away, but I decided to give it a go with some training and took to it naturally. I had learned some stuff from my pops and my grandpops, so I was able to pick things up much quicker than a normal person would. I performed in some regional companies in Southern California, and in Northern Mexico. I learned aerial skills, that is, jumping attacks and using the ropes to my own advantage. I trained along many luchadors as well."
Jon Que: "The masked Mexican wrestling, right?"
Avery: "Haha, sort of. Yeah. So I had plenty of training and paid my dues before I was signed to my main company, New Generation Wrestling. And recently I decided to expand my horizons here in Vegas with VWS and in Texas as well. VWS has a good setup plus Vegas is a great city. It is an untapped wrestling market that has a lot of pure potential."
Jon Que: "Tell us about Avery, the man. I read something about a tragedy in your life, and how you are triumphing now?"
Avery: "Well I married my middle school sweetheart a few years ago. We were together for a long time. While I was on the road, I learned that she was killed in a car accident. She was carrying our child, something that we were not aware of. I went through a dark time, but have come out on the other side of things. My fiancee, Alycia, has been there for me. I have been working through things still and doing what I can to get myself in a better mental state. We also just learned that she is pregnant. So things have changed significantly over the last six months, but I think that things happen for a reason. Some people think that six months is a fast turnaround, but when I met Alycia the last thing I was looking for was a love interest. We can't control who we have connections with, but I am glad that she came along."
Jon Que: "Wow. What a story. You need to write a book."
*They both laugh as Alycia has stopped playing on her tablet, she enjoys hearing how Avery tells the story*
Avery: "I am just blessed that I am here, healthy, happy. She I am joined by someone that I care about deeply, and love."
Jon Que: "Well congratulations to the both of you."
Avery: "Thank you."
Jon Que: "So, let's talk more about your match."
Avery: "Sure. It is a tag team match."
Jon Que: "Two teams of two people, right? And only one person inside the ring at one time?"
Avery: "Correct. It is Ellis and myself, taking on Javen and Jones. Javen and Jones both showed up big time in the Main Event at "March Madness" but there were some... circumstances, that led Javen to getting the win. I am not here to say whether or not a person is talented or not, but I like to win on my own accord. It seems like Jones and Javen are not on the same time by any means, but I am sure that they are not going to be happy that Gabriel Ellis is the third man in the trio to fight for the title. The VWS World Championship."
Jon Que: "So where do you fit into all of this?"
Avery: "Well I was the man to be in the final two out of way, and the other was Ellis. I guess the suits felt as though I was deserving of another shot to put myself on display, and I thank them for that. It is important to me to do what I can to make sure to show them why I deserve of a title shot. I want to have my name thrown into the mix as well and it only makes sense to help Ellis and our team to pull off a win against two of the top guys in this company."
Jon Que: "Well best of luck in the match!"
Avery: "Thank you, I appreciate it. Everyone come and check us out. Tickets can be purchased on the VWS Website or at the box office."
Jon Que: "And again, check out Avery Miles III Tuesday here in Vegas; T-Mobile Arena hosts Valentine Wrestling Syndicate. You are welcome back anytime, Avery."
Avery: "I will hold you to that. Take care!"
*With that, the interview ends. A voice comes over the airports PA system announcing that their flight was now boards. Avery gets up to his feet and grabs both of their bags. Alycia reaches to grab hers, and he shakes his head know. He leans forward for a kiss and she obliges. The two of them head towards the gate as the scene comes to an end*
Scene 004 - SoCal Grappling Arts Center - San Diego, CA - Summer 2011 - FLASHBACK
*A younger Avery Miles III is inside of the ring taking bumps over and over again. He keeps landing, but it is not flat. Some are off to the side. Some his head bounce. Some he touches his ass first.*
Man: "Get up! Do it again! You are lazy... come on! You are pathetic!"
*Avery gets up and bumps again, this time perfect*
Man: "Good. Now do it. Again. And again. Until you lose count!"
*Avery grumbles and he picks himself back up and does it again. And again. And again. The man exits the ring and grabs a sandwhich off of a nearby plate. The man walks with a cane and has a bit of a hobble to him. He almost looks like he is a broken man; someone that meant something at one point, but he looks battered and weathered. Thuds from the ring still are going on as Avery continues to bump; each getting better with time.*
Man: "Good. Good. Now I want you to climb to the second rope, back towards the ring, and bump from there."
*Avery's back is all red. He gives a "You had to be kidding me" look. The man takes a bit of the sandwhich and has a seat in a lawn chair that is just outside of the ring*
Man: "Come on Sally, do it. The world does not have time to wait for you. And we have a long way to go!"
*Avery climbs to the second rope, and falls back. He hits hard and his head bounces. He groans in pain, but without a word gets back up to his feet, climbs up, and does it again. The man finishes his sandwhich as he takes a drink of an Ensure drink as the scene comes to an end*
Scene 005 - Outside of the T-Mobile Arena - Las Vegas, NV - Monday April 11th MST
*Avery Miles III is joined by a camera crew as he stands outside of the T-Mobile Arena. Somewhat of a crowd has formed a semi-circle around him as people in Vegas are always looking for a show. Avery is dressed in an 'AM3' shirt with a pair of jeans and a pair of Jordans. The camera man lets him know that they are ready. Avery nods. He stops pacing and focuses in on the camera and looks to be quite serious. He aims his words into the camera*
"So it looks like last week I didn't have the size to take down Gabriel Ellis. Bravo to him for winning. If there were one man to beat me, I am glad that is way him. This week it looks like we are partners. I am ready for our tag match, and ready to fight for the team. I hope that he is on the same wavelength as I am. Not being on the same page or trying to win it alone does neither of us good. Make the best of it, and pickup my first win, and another win for you. I am not asking to be best friends, just looking for a tag team partner that wants to get the win."
*More people add to the crowd as Avery continues on. He paces back and forth, and settles back in to the camera*
"We take on two people that appear to be on different sides of the fence. Last week they were opponents as well, but I honestly doubt that there is any respect there. They are not going to work well together, and while I am use the whole 'conquer and divide' sort of tactic we all already know that they will do it to themselves. Like a powder keg ready to explode, it is not a matter of if, but a matter of when. It is going to happen, there is no doubt about it. But let me touch on the both of them..."
*Avery looks out to the crowd as a few dozen people have amassed and the crew tries to maintain some semblance of a perimeter*
"Let's start with Alex Jones. Married to the boss. It seems as though he is the handpicked winner to lead this company. But the thing is, it is honestly hard to argue with that. Look at all of his previous accomplishments. He has done so much in this industry. He has paid his dues. And hit title reigns are not limited to one or two places. This guy has been a winner wherever he has gone, right? Why should I buck the trend and try to fight against the obvious choice to become champion? It is simple; he have never met me inside of the ring. Yeah, I get it. I haven't done squat. Plenty of young guys have probably stepped to him again. Does that mean I would be more of the same? You never know until it happens. Regardless of my feelings about Alex being 'protected' by the boss, I know my place and that I have to work for it. I have to earn it. And I have no problem paying my dues; that is half of the fun. I enjoy doing what I do. And like Chumbawamba once get, 'I get knocked down, but I get back up again. You're never going to keep me down.' I cannot wait to lock up with Alex Jones because I will gladly show him and Ms. Valentine why I am someone to be remembered."
*A slight cheer from the crowd as Avery offers a half-smile, but continues to speak into the camera. A fire has been lit in him that VWS did not see last show*
"And the other man on the team, Javen. The Rainbow Haired Warrior. The Neon Haired Freak. I hope I am getting those nicknames right? If not, I apologize. I know you by proxy; I wrestled in NGW with your brother Christian. I was briefly trained by Hayden Phoenix, a man that I believe wrestled with you back in PWT as well. It seems like we know each other by Seven Degrees of Kevin Bacon. But here we are, inside of the ring. I actually admire you a lot, inside of the ring. You leave it all out there in the ring. You are willing to risk life and limb. You want to put on one hell of a show whether is it twenty people or twenty thousand people. I can respect that. I can respect that you bring. And I cannot wait until the day that we meet in a singles match. I fancy myself a man of aerial moves and would love to see who would come out on top. I mean, I have confidence in myself and you obviously would be pulling for a win. But for the fans? They would be loving every moment of it. It would be a match to not change the channel for. But for now we are in this tag match. I am sure that you feel like you are in a position of no win; do you pickup with win with a man that you obviously do not get along with? Or do you get the win regardless? I am sure that the competitor in you wants to pickup the win. I hope that you and Alex both are on the same page because Gabriel and I want to get the win over opponents at one hundred percent."
*The crowd has almost engulfed Avery now, and some of them are even being shown on the edges of the screen. Some cheering is heard after the bit about Javen, as Avery smiles and continues on*
"I heard what some of the fans had to say about the show last week. It seems like some of them loved what they saw inside of the ring. I have my fair share of people that know me, but it seems like the people of Las Vegas don't quite know who AM3 is. And that is a shame. But don't worry. I know that people are considering myself an underdog. The fourth dog in this fight. But I have no qualms. I am ready and willing to fight it out, and carve a place for myself at the top. I know that it is going to take some spectacular showings and some big wins to make headway; lucky for the fans i don't mind paying my dues and putting in the work. VWS has a great fanbase already, a great venue, and a great roster. I am ready and willing to lead by example, and show people why Avery Miles III is a name to be remembered. Instead of throwing insults or trying to score a kiss with the boss, I do what I do inside of the ring. I perform to the best of my abilities, I let my work speak for itself, and I lay it all on the line. My opponents can talk about how I came up short last week, but you know what? I continue on without fail, and when things fall in place for me I plan on leading the company by example. I don't need to cheat or force things for me to win; I simply do what I do."
*The cheers of the crowd take over as Avery sides sideways and looks around, not realizing how big the crowd grew. He offers a smile to the camera as he feels confident in his approach this week. The camera fades to black*
