“They’re so beautiful aren’t they?”
“Yeah…of course they are…they are accomplishments and milestones in our lives and careers…”
I smile at Ana, she grins back, looking very much relaxed in one of my old shirts and a pair of jeans instead of “business” Ana. She looks up at the wall as do I at the many championships we have both one over our careers. World titles, tag titles, divisional belts. So many companies.
I look over at my side with a grin and then at Ana’s before something catches my eyes. I look over at my wife with a grin as she hums a tune.
“Um, Ana, where…where are your belts from WCF?”
She smiles and rolls her eyes before motioning to the side and through a door. In the small bathroom I see them, hanging above the toilet.
“Oh..well that is a great place to keep them I suppose…”
“The VWS World title should be front and center don’t you think?”
I chuckle and shake my head with a sigh. Ana slides over wrapping her arm around me.
“So….are we going to talk about it?...”
Ana raises an eyebrow looking up at me.
“About what?”
“You know…the fact you allowed Sarah Twilight to disrespect you…”
Ana lets me go and turns in a huff throwing her hands in the air.
“You too huh?..as if I don’t get enough of this shit from Amber.”
“Hey settle down, I’m just wondering what your plan is and why you seem so different around Twilight….”
Ana sighs and folds her arms she looks around and swallows hard before looking back at me.
“All will come out and be clear, but this is my company and I make decisions for the betterment of it. Besides maybe you should focus more on Avery Miles. He seems to have your number…”
I scoff and roll my eyes.
“Oh please, the only number he is going to have is 911….”
“Just, focus on keeping that title please Alex. The last thing we need is Avery Miles fluking a win over you and strutting around here like some kind of conquering hero…”
I smile and nod as Ana steps forward into my arms wrapping hers around my waist and resting her head on my chest.
“I’m sure you all expect me to sit here and make some kind of lame excuses about my match against Cable Arcane. Like tell the world I was injured, I wasn’t ready, the match was booked wrong….I don’t know, some bullshit like that.”
“See according to certain people in this company I’m just a giant crybaby hiding behind his wife. Protected, secure…a hand picked champion.”
Alex looks up through his long black and blonde hair with a grin.
“Then again more enlightened people, like my opponent last week, Cable Arcane know the truth. For years I have been one of the best in the world. A champion everywhere I have gone. I amassed knowledge and wealth and in some sense power. And the truly enlightened can see that…”
“I know how to take an advantage, any advantage to stay as a champion. And that is what counts. You want to be a legend in this business? You want to be remembered?. You do what it takes…..”
“I look around VWS and I see a vast resource of untapped talent. I see men and women who could be leaders in this company and this industry. So many people believe I want to “hold the roster down” but that is not what this is about…”
Alex slowly gets to his feet.
“I want someone strong to be the champion. A strong champion means a strong company. And I am the strongest champion right now, and the reason I put these roadblocks up is simple. They’re tests. Tests for people to show me they can carry this championship and therefor the company on their backs….”
He pulls up the VWS championship.
“Until someone beats me, until they overcome everything I do I won’t have faith in them as a champion. And that is all I want, you people have it all wrong. And this Sunday at All in LIVE from Atlantic City New Jersey I’m going to walk into that ring…and Avery Miles the third or number three or triple I whatever the fuck is going to find out why I earned this…and why he won’t…”
VWS Uprising-Sunday May 1st 2016
It’s a whirlwind of a life. And it’s on that we all choose to try and be in. Despite what we all know about the trappings of fame every single one of us has the same dream. To be a champion. To travel the world, to make money. But few of us ever reach the heights. Despite the companies flooding the wrestling landscape the cream will always rise to the top.
You need to be ready for this. You need to stand up and conduct yourself as a professional. And who you are in the ring and out of the ring should be different. You should keep it separate. I stand in the ring and feel the hatred and anger. I can see it in their eyes.
They want me beaten. Bloody.
Even dead.
I hold the championship belt in my hands as the sweat pours from my forehead. My hair dripping. I can still hear the crowd. They want my blood. They want it bad. My wife sits across from me, her mouth twisted in a grin, a half proud smile and an arrogant smirk. Her eyes trailing around the VWS Championship in my hands. I take a deep breath and get to my feet.
Ana smiles and nods, we don’t even need to talk as I put on my shirt and pick up my bag. We head towards the lockerroom door and as it opens I get hit with flashbulbs, questions, accusations. We break past them and out the door to the waiting car, I sit down and Ana slides in. She changes…she smiles.
She’s proud and full of love. This isn’t “work” Ana, this isn’t “CEO” Ana….this isn’t even “wrestling” Ana. This is my wife. This is sweet little Ana Maria. The girl who ten years ago I met and then a few years later re-entered my life, stole my heart and is now my partner.
And with her…nothing can stop me….
“I think you’d be forgiven for believing I harbor some deep seeded hatred towards Avery Miles. The truth is. I don’t hate Avery. In fact I quite like you.”
“You have an amazing ground game and you can fly as well as brawl and you know submissions. You have the total package to be a world champion. To be a star. A much bigger star than NGW will allow. A much bigger star than GoL will see.”
“You’re a great wrestler, just not as great as me.”
Alex smiles and winks.
“I get it though, you and Cable Arcane beat the hell out of one another, or rather he beat the hell out of you before you got lucky. You locked him in that figure four until he passed out. And then he went on to beat me. But you are not Cable Arcane, you’re not as good as him…you’re just…not…”
“Despite what you believe Avery I hope you succeed in this cut throat business and I am fully prepared to admit that I will do anything to keep this…”
Alex pulls up the VWS world championship.
“I will cheat, I will lie, I will use any and every advantage I have to make sure this belt comes home with me. And I know what you’re thinking…”
“That’s because you have to do it Alex…”
“No. I don’t. I don’t have to do these things. I do them because I want to. I do them to make sure the man who beats me is a worthy champion. See when VWS was formed and thought up we wanted the best of the best. We wanted to make sure the titles were worth it. We watched and Javen and Gabriel Ellis emerged as contenders…”
“I stepped in the ring with them, they couldn’t hang. They didn’t have the balls….”
“And I walked out as champion, I walked out with my head held high. You showed that fire and you showed how good you are. But your fatal flaw is thinking you’re better than me because of the things I do. You think if we go one on one and we have a fair match you have me beat just like that.”
Alex clicks his fingers and smiles.
“You think I became a champion everywhere I have gone by accident or because I cheated?”
“You think a man can become a six time world champion, a hall of famer and win tournament after tournament because of dumb luck?”
“I have proved myself week after week for the last decade. I have beaten legend after legend and as I have entered my prime people have taken notice. Hell even Cable last week. He knows who I am, what I’ve done and he thinks that the battles and wars I’ve been in have beaten me down and I am not as good as I once was…”
“Maybe he’s right, maybe he isn’t. But the bottom line is he knows I have been the best of the best and he respected it. You haven’t earned anything. Sure you’re a great wrestler, sure you can “go” but aside from win a silly little title back in NGW and loss to Dalmon what have you done hmm?.”
“You’re talented kid, you think you can beat me, but thinking something and knowing it are two different things. At All In you’ll be facing a legend, a hall of famer and a champion. And if you’re still to thick to show respect and not underestimate me…”
“Well I suppose I’ll just beat the respect into you…”
